A promising graduate, Evren was attacked and killed after challenging two anti-social youths who threw a half-eaten chocolate bar through his sisters car window as they sat at traffic lights.
When Evren, 23, complained, a knife was held to his throat before he was punched to the ground, fatally banging his head on the concrete.
His distraught family paid tribute to Evren Anil, 23, a keen amateur actor and footballer who tutored children at weekends.
He was a week into his dream job as a programme developer for an IT company after gaining a first class honours degree in computer sciences.
He and his sister Elif were driving to a friend's house when two youths threw the chocolate bar through the window of their car in Upper Norwood, South London.
When Mr Anil got out of the car to remonstrate, one of them produced a knife which was held to his throat.
A passer-by tried to intervene but Mr Anil was struck in the face and fell to the ground suffering a heavy blow to the head.
Miss Anil stressed he did nothing to provoke the attack, adding: "We were just sitting at the lights when one of the boys threw a chocolate bar in the car window because he thought it was funny.
"Evren asked them why they did it but the boy then pulled out his knife, pushed him and then threatened him. He held the knife to his throat and then punched him.
"Evren fell down and banged his head on the ground - that injury was the fatal blow."
She said her brother lay in the road for five minutes before he managed to pick himself up and sit in the car.
"He was suddenly sick, she added. "He just said, 'My head hurts and my chest hurts' and then he went unconscious. Those were his last words."
His family kept a vigil by his bedside for eight days after he fell into a coma but he died at King's College Hospital on Monday.
Miss Anil said: "Words can't describe the boy. He was an angel. He was my younger brother and my best friend. He was so generous.
"He was a very bright boy. I was so privileged to have a brother like him. I just miss him so much."
The attack happened at traffic lights on Central Hill at midday on 5 August.
The youths, described as black and aged about 18, ran off into nearby Central Hill Estate. Gipsy Hill police station is less than 100 yards away.
Miss Anil, a housing officer, added: "Who carries a knife with them during the daylight? I just wish parents would check what their kids are doing."
Bulent Anil, 33, one of his two brothers, added: "Was his life so cheap that he had to die over a chocolate bar? He was such a kind guy who would never, ever hurt anyone.
"He just loved people. I'm lost for words. I just don't know what to say. I just can't accept it. You expect this to happen to other people, not to you.
"My mum still thinks he's coming back and so do I. He was like a light and without our light, we cannot do anything."
Mr Anil arrived in London from Istanbul at the age of three with his family. He lived in Upper Norwood with his father Niyazi, 52, a retired caterer, and 48-year-old mother Altun.
He went to Harris and Coulsdon Colleges before going on to Kingston University.
The family told how he was passionate about his Muslim faith and tutored maths and science for children at a Saturday school in Croydon.
He was also a keen actor, snowboarder and footballer who played for Croydon City.
He had been voted most valuable player two years in a row in the Croydon Sunday football league. Miss Anil added: "He loved kids. He would spend his weekends educating the kids out of the goodness of his heart. He was a great person for society - unfortunately his time was up."

even thinking of you now brings tears to my eyes, I cant believe you gone, everytime i think bout you, all i can remember is the smile you had at uni, willing to help anyone who asked you.
I've seen many tribute for you, but cant bare to write anything, but here goes I need to thank you for helping me so much in the final year, I got a 2:1, wish you were here so i could thank you properly

The two boys that killed Evren got 4 years each today (4th April 2008). It was Patrick Rowe's birthday the day he killed Evren, his friend Dejon Thompson had only turned 16 two days before that. What makes someone act and do what these two have done, and then sit in court and face the Evren's family with a smile on his face.
Don't think that the Prime Minister care's or if he is going to change the law, no matter how more Evren's are killed. As long as you pay your taxes and don't steal from the state is all they want.
Leave now and look for a better life else where, nothing will change in this country, because the government don't care and don't fool yourself, walking down to Downing street or getting a 1 million signitures wont change anything.
Just ask the 2 million people that went to Westminster and said No to War in Iraq.
To my brother Evren - You are in a better place now, it was just too soon.

This was such a waste. Kids that carry knifes should be punished as if they were carryining a gun. I they weren't carrying a knife they wouldn't have had the balls to do what they did.

Human life
I was absolutely sickened to read this. Yet another example of human life considered to be expendable. Another decent human being whose life was over for a triviality. When will the law in this country be changed to life means life. I am sure if there was a referendum on this the general concensus would be an overwhelming yes. Would'nt that be a fitting tribute for Evren?
